Reasons Why You Need to Appreciate Your Pet

As you go about your daily activities, do you take time to thank your pet? Your pet is a part of your family, and they deserve to be appreciated for all the love and companionship they offer you. Often times we thank our family members and friends and take the time to spend quality time with them. We host parties or arrange picnics and invite friends to celebrate moments together.

Meanwhile, our pets sit by the window or bask outside as they stare at us hoping one day you will remember them.

I believe by now you have the picture in your mind of what I am taking about. We can agree that we are not always thankful for our pets, and even if deep down we are, we often forget to show it to them.

In this article, we will look at things you sometimes overlook while having your furry friend by your side.

Our pets are the best snuggle buddies

Cuddling with your dog or cat is the best feeling ever! You can do it in bed or on the couch and they will love it regardless of where you do it from – even on the floor is a perfect spot for them. Your pet will always love to snuggle no matter what. Better yet, in cold weather your pet will feel like a walking heater.

They are always happy to see you

How many times has your pet become uncontrollably excited when they see you after you have been away all day? No matter who you are, there’s always a special kind of joy that comes from seeing the genuine happiness your pet feels when they see you. Your dog will jump up and down,  wagging their tail in utter joy while your feline will spend some time rubbing themselves against you even as you walk around the house before settling down. It won’t matter if you don’t bring them gifts. Your pet will feel and show sincere happiness and give you a celebrity welcome.

They’ll give you a good laugh

Have you noticed that a great number of videos that go viral are based on dogs and cats? Their silly antics are outright funny! Your pet is capable of making a sound or movement that will leave you in stitches, whether they are self-entertaining or trying to get your attention. Pets don’t need to work hard at being funny, they simply are!

They are good for your health

Studies show that there is a direct correlation between your health and having a pet. Walking your dog and playing fetch with them provides a much needed workout and will reduce the risk of heart disease. A pet also helps us forge better relationships with our fellow humans.

That cuddle with your cat or dog is said to help normalise blood pressure by making us feel calm and relieve stress.

They are fun

If you have a pet in your home, you know there’s never a dull moment with your furry friend around. Cats and dogs constantly goof around and with a little creativity; you are in for some fun and games. All you need to do is release your inner child and have some fun!

They provide comfort

Pets have a way of knowing when you are sad, tense or angry. When I’ve had a stressful day and feel down, my dog won’t avoid me but will instead come up and give me an understanding look, a comforting cuddle and just be there for me.

They aren’t demanding

Your pet will want to be petted, walked, given a treat and some exercises. By and large, that really isn’t much to ask for. What they need most is to belong and be loved; to be part of a loving family. That along with food to eat and a drink of water, love will keep your pet happy.

You will never feel lonely

Whether your spouse is away on business or you live alone. Whether you are a widow or widower, or if your kids are away at school, your pet will always keep you company.

Sure, your pet might have some annoying habits. Dogs and cats have a tendency to follow you around the house as you go about your business. However annoying it may seem to you, deep down it gives you the comfort of knowing that no matter what, you are not alone.

They give unconditional love

To your pet, you are king. It doesn’t matter what your occupation is, what your grooming habits are, where you live or how you cook. Your pet simply loves you just the way you are. They love you unconditionally. I don’t know about you, but for me this is what I love most about my pet.

Pets give us purpose

We can all agree that pets keep us pretty busy. But when all is said and done, there’s a kind of joy and satisfaction that comes from caring for someone other than yourself. There’s also joy in seeing how appreciative your pet is after you feed them, pet them or pay with them. The joy you feel when you walk into your home and are warmly received by them. This feeling is simply incomparable.

There are many more reasons why you need to appreciate your pet. Like they say, it’s the little things in life that bring us the most joy. I bet every pet owner is appreciative of the warm cuddles, the calming purrs, their warm hearts, the slobbery hugs and kisses, the endless hours of entertainment they offer and the unconditional love and joy pets so freely give to us.
