Do I need to register my dog in Australia?

To keep your dog safe, pet owners in ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC and WA are required by law to register their dogs.

Registering your dog provides your local council with a description of your dog, identifies you as the owner and lists contact information.

In Northern Territory, there is no territory-based requirements but some local governments may require registration.

In most states that require registration, dogs over the age of 3 months must be registered.

For more information, please visit the RSPCA Knowledgebase and check your state/local council for any updates to legislation.
